The Coming of the Light of the World Part 5 of 10
“Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life’ “ (John 8:12).
If you have believed the gospel message of Jesus Christ, you are in God’s family just like His first-century followers. And this verse is a promise to us, believers after the cross.
First, we will “not walk in darkness.” This is God’s promise. Believers do not walk in darkness. Any verses in the New Testament about walking in darkness are not referring to you. How can we be sure that we are we not walking in darkness?
The answer is the second part of the promise; the Light of life is living in us. The Light of life – Jesus – has come to live in you by His Spirit. We have “the Light of life.”
Here is the promise again. Jesus said, “While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of Light” (John 12:36). The promise of the gospel is just that simple. Behold the Light. Believe in the Light. And you will become sons and daughters of Light.
A “son of Light” has the light living in him. In Matthew chapter 5, Jesus declares that a day is coming when we will be known as “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). How can we be the light of the world? I thought Jesus was the light of the world. Do you see it? By virtue of the Light living in you, sons and daughters of Light, you are joined with Jesus and have become “the light of the world.”
We are sons and daughters of Light and do not walk in darkness because Jesus is the Light of the world!
